Despite the contentious nature of modern human civilization, or perhaps because of it, I’d be surprised to find anyone arguing there isn’t a lot of discord, from natural disasters to cultural upheaval. So how do we utilize metaphors to deal with unrest? One of the first things to ask is how truthful are we willing to be with ourselves. How clear can we get about inner disarray? Otherwise, no philosophical instruction or guidance can provide a helpful perspective, marketing claims notwithstanding. After embracing self-honesty, meaning can emerge because we’re dedicated to discovery and shedding light on blindspots.
The result is increased sensitivity, being more attuned to contrasting nuances which reveal connections and correlations. This receptivity makes turbulence less overwhelming by generating an “immediacy of perception”, an instantaneous awareness of the unconscious. Does that mean emergencies or tragedies vanish? Of course not, but they take on a hue of profound revelation.
It’s more important than ever in moments of stress to see the bigger picture and respond accordingly. That’s another question for the Keen Outlook Cards, namely what’s the bigger picture with my unconscious right now?
Meanings:
seeing beyond confinement, taking a distant view past punishment, looking at the light of the past
Taking a look at the cosmos is an inspired liberating experience. The universe is the big picture and peering into the unknown can produce a freedom for inspired thoughts to emerge.
On a final note, when we feel good it’s important not to forget when we didn’t. Little nuggets of gratitude make a huge difference.
