Upon awakening from a night of slumber, do you ask yourself about your unconscious? Do you take a moment to remember any dreams? How many times a day do you wonder what your unconscious might think or feel? Do you assume it will automatically repair the body in case of illness or injury? Do you forget that it knows every secret ever kept? Do you ever imagine what it may have in store for your current situation? Do you care about engaging a partnership with your unconscious for welcoming guidance from within? Or do you just assume all impulses, aspirations, responsibilities and obligations comprise the total tapestry of your present circumstances?

Concerns about mundane matters, whether imperative or trivial, predominantly occupy our attention, which is understandable. Afterall, prosaic features of modern society provide numerous distractions that keep us from exploring deeper levels of the psyche. People rarely pause to reflect on what keeps them ticking or faltering. According to research, only around five percent of cognition is registered by the conscious, so the vast percentage of our behavior, choices and reactions are influenced by brain functioning that remains beyond subjective thought. As University Of Wisconsin neuroscientist Paul Whelan noted, “Most of what we do every minute of every day is unconscious . . . Life would be chaos if everything were on the forefront of our consciousness.” This truth highlights the importance of generating our own curiosity for what lurks beneath superficial appearance. We need to exercise inquisitiveness if we want to it be productive and let the unconscious emerge.

What a wonderful gift we all possess, though it remains largely dormant and unacknowledged. Regardless, cultivating a curiosity about the unconscious is one of the healthiest things to do and benefits everything from digestion to coordination and balance. The main reason is due to the fact that the unconscious is the bedrock of mentality and without it conscious awareness couldn’t arise. In other words, getting knocked unconscious by a blow or going into a coma indicates how the unconscious still exists without the waking state but not vice versa. This tells us a great deal, a blatant reminder that when we connect to the unconscious, the more optimum our chances of harmony and success.

Naturally, bonding with one’s deeper self is easier said than done since personal habits are an essential part of building a partnership with the unconscious. Consistency is key because otherwise the unconscious  disengages and we may become absentminded at critical moments despite intelligence or diligence. So pick a healthy activity that puts you in touch with your unconscious and be consistent with it. However, getting dependent on shortcuts like drugs and other addictions will obscure a contributive relationship despite evoking inspiration or comfort. On the other hand, proactive consistency leads to excellence, refinement and wisdom.

Selecting random card combinations to flex interpretive muscles offers a reliable method for exercising association sensibilities. Remember, the unconscious communicates through metaphors, which means metaphor recognition promotes insightful realization. Then, while navigating the world, at least our troubles or obstacles are contrasted by a sense of discovery. The power of truth doesn’t come from a moral compass but from seeing reality for what it is. Most importantly, a lack of interest in the unconscious can make us more vulnerable to agitation, derangement, misinformation and jaded assessments. Therefore, take the opportunity to explore the recesses of your mind and beckon a fruitful collaboration.
